The Imperial Mews development will deliver 50 new properties, comprising of 43 new flats, 5 houses along with 2 commercial units. The artwork will contribute to this new development through creating a distinctive and site-specific piece of public art to enhance the communal open space.
The development is on the site of the former Imperial Cinema, as part of the works the facade of the Cinema, an important local landmark, will be retained. The project will create a bespoke work of art in the form of a mural that responds to and communicates the sites history (see below) to give the site, its residents, local people and visitors a unique artistic interpretation of the sites past. We are now looking for an artist (or group of artists) to create a site-specific work of public art that draws upon the sites stories.
The selected artist will be required to work with members of the project team in the development of their ideas and have the final designs approved before entering the production stage.
Proposals for the first stage of the application process are now closed.
