|Southampton City Art Gallery Exhibition
My professional development project is to create a series of miniature biro drawings for a solo exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery in spring 2015. Inspired by Stanley Spencer’s reimagining of Cookham Village, I intend to create images of a mythologized Southampton, where different epochs bleed through each other and co exist.
The programme has been invaluable to me. On a practical level, having the studio has opened up, for the first time, the possibility of painting and the developing of simultaneous projects.
The chance to have a body of work professionally framed has also been a great help, as my work is small and greatly benefits from larger mounts etc.
The ability of A Space to pair early career artists with experienced practitioners is something to be championed – the validation of positive feedback from a professional is energizing and encouraging, let alone the insight offered.
